The cruel statistic is that every 30 seconds, a Romanian woman becomes a victim of domestic abuse. Very few of them actually talk about it. But that should not surprise us. The world has a long history of closing its eyes to domestic violence.
If you look at the film industry, you cannot deny the crucial role it plays in education. We simply do what we see in the movies. The wrong behavior seems to have been portrayed since the beginning though: silent films have been hiding scenes of abuse towards women under the mask of entertainment for almost 100 years.
ANAIS, a local organization that supports domestic violence victims wanted to undo the wrong. With the loss of copyright of dozens of these silent movies on January 1st 2019, Anais wandered if they could be turned into an empowering cinematographic product for the next generation?
This was the birth of “Unquiet Voices”, a 40-minute movie that breaks a 100-year-old silence. 7 victims of domestic violence broke the silence and give voice, for the first time, to abused characters in silent movies. They hope to inspire other women to find the strength to do the same and share their own story of abuse.
